5 steps to fix poor business performance

A friend recently posted on Facebook how three well-known stores at a mall lost her business because no one came to help her when she walked in. She was beginning to feel that maybe something was wrong with her.

Finally, an associate helped her at the fourth store, and as a result, that store earned several hundred dollars in sales, a great shout-out on Facebook, and probably thousands in future revenue.

Your business is an integrated system of systems. It is comprised of employees and processes — which may be enabled or enhanced through technology — and it interfaces with other systems (customers/potential customers, vendors, investors, lenders, and governments).

As with any system, one of the most likely points of failure will be at the interfaces.

Great engineering organizations understand this, and so they manage and design those interfaces very carefully to ensure success. You should do the same, particularly with the interface that rules them all: customers and potential customers.
