Leader, if your business decisions are driven by your desire to be liked – by your employees, family, stakeholders, politicians, the media, etc. – rather than what’s in your business’s best interests, you aren’t leading…you’re FOLLOWING. Fawning approbation can feel good and make you feel important, but it can destroy your business. LEAD and stay focused on your strategy. Certainly you can take all those other constituencies into account when making decisions, but effective business leadership is not a popularity contest.
