Use this Vince Vaughn technique when confronting difficult employees

One of the challenges of leadership is confronting difficult employees.

You know the kind. They do good work, they generally get along well with others, but they try to wield power over others — their bosses, their coworkers — by bullying.

For example, you ask an employee for a deliverable by the end of the day. You follow up a few hours later to see how things are coming along, and he talks disrespectfully to you and doesn’t give a straight answer. Not only does he make things uncomfortable, but you still don’t know if he needs more resources to meet the deadline.

His intent is to make things uncomfortable for you so that you’ll leave him alone. He’s trying to take charge.

Yes, you can fire him, but that’s probably a little extreme.
